We are looking for a Commissioning Specialist!
The HIDI Group is an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm with over 150 professionals across Toronto, Ottawa, and Calgary. We provide integrated building services expertise through Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Lighting, Communications & AV, Security & Risk, Commissioning, and Energy Services.
We're looking for a Commissioning Specialist who enjoys solving technical challenges, working directly in the field, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams. In this role, you'll help ensure building systems perform as intended—from design through occupancy—while acting as a trusted advisor to our clients throughout the commissioning process.
What You'll Do
- Manage commissioning projects from planning through project closeout.
- Coordinate and execute commissioning activities for new and existing buildings.
- Conduct site inspections, functional performance testing, and system verification.
- Troubleshoot building systems and provide practical recommendations to optimize performance.
- Prepare commissioning plans, reports, deficiency logs, and project documentation.
- Work closely with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and building operators throughout all project phases.
- Perform building condition assessments and infrastructure reviews as required.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
- Support proposal preparation and contribute to developing long-term client relationships.
- Assist in developing and improving commissioning procedures, templates, and reporting tools.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 3 years of commissioning experience within the building consulting or engineering industry.
- College diploma or university degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, mechanical, and building systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes, ASHRAE guidelines, and LEED commissioning requirements.
- Excellent technical writing, reporting, and communication skills.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience managing technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfortable working on active construction sites and in mechanical spaces.
- Willingness to travel throughout the GTA, Ontario, and occasionally out of province as project needs require.
- Ability to obtain Government of Canada security clearance.
