Position Summary
The Hydrovac Swamper assists the Hydrovac Operator with excavation activities, equipment setup, maintenance, traffic control, and site safety. This position plays a critical role in ensuring hydro-excavation work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company and client requirements.
Responsibilities
As a Hydrovac Swamper, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Hydrovac Operator with daily operations and excavation activities.
- Setting up and maintaining safe work zones, including traffic control and site protection measures.
- Operating high-pressure excavation hoses and vacuum equipment under the direction of the operator.
- Locating and exposing underground utilities safely.
- Performing pre-trip, post-trip, and daily equipment inspections.
- Assisting with routine maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of Hydrovac equipment.
- Completing required field documentation, FLHAs, inspections, and safety reports.
- Supporting the loading, unloading, and transportation of equipment and materials.
- Maintaining positive working relationships with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Following all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Performing general labor duties as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous Hydrovac, construction, utility, pipeline, or civil construction experience considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, pulling, and carrying materials.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable transportation to designated reporting locations.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License (required).
- Clean driver's abstract (required).
Required Certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- CSTS 2020
- WHMIS 2015
- Ground Disturbance Level II
- Standard First Aid / CPR
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space Entry (asset)
- Traffic Control / Flagging (asset)

Working Conditions
