Job Details:
Senior Structural Checkers complete advanced, complex, and confidential tasks requiring strong understanding of engineering principles and a high standard of designing and drafting skill. We are currently looking for individuals to join in our CAMBRIDGE Ontario location.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts detailed checking and reporting of structural design and drafting
- Checks the design and drafting of structural steel drawings including module skid bases, pipe racks, pipe supports, platforms, rigid frame buildings, and large structures
- Ensures drawings are dimensionally clear, complete, and correct
- Ensures drawings are in accordance with project scope, client specifications, standards, and applicable codes and regulations
- Ensures drawings are in agreement with the latest vendor print available and the latest information from the Engineering Department
- Monitors drawings created by detailing staff
- Obtains and manages design information from engineering and other disciplines
- Reviews vendor and in-house coordination drawings to ensure compliance with related project requirements
- Organizes design packages
- Gains full understanding of project scopes and schedules
- Checks complete and intelligent 3D models of structures
- Checks all fabrication drawings and BOMs
- Collaborates with Project and Mechanical Engineering
- Coordinates designs with the Mechanical Engineering group
- Assists with design efforts from Propak's foreign drafting office
- Assists in developing standards
- Attends meetings and model reviews to discuss design aspects
- Guides junior personnel assigned to their area of projects
- Provides design schedules and assists with manpower planning
- Creates weekly progress and status reports
Prerequisites
Education
- Diploma in Engineering Design Drafting Technology (EDDT) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
- 7+ years' experience in structural module design and drafting for heavy industrial projects in oil and gas processing (EPCM preferred)
- 2-5 years' experience in structural checking of models and fabrication drawings
- Fabrication shop designing and checking experience
- Experience in drafting (CAD) of structural and mechanical module components
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2010 and higher
- 3-5 years' experience with 3D Cadworx
- 5+ years' experience with 2D Acad
- Experience with AutoDesk programs including AutoCAD and Inventor
Other
- Strong design skills in structural steel supports, piping systems, and pressure vessels
- Structural detailing skills
- Solid knowledge of the ASME code for checking structural designs
- Understanding of design and drafting practices for structural components
- Solid knowledge of modular designs
- Knowledge of Navisworks
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel

Work Environment
Specific Work Conditions
- Performs work in an office setting and requires the need to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries

Physical Requirements
- Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc…
- Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs
- Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipment
- Wears company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops or visiting project sites. Project site PPE includes CSA approved steel toed boots and long pants
- Involves walking on uneven ground in yards and at project sites
