Senior Consultant – UKG Scheduling and Workday (HRIS) Programs

Job Description

This Senior Consultant role provides strategic leadership and program delivery support across UKG Scheduling Pro WFM and Workday HRIS initiatives in a large, complex healthcare environment. The consultant partners closely with project managers, steering committees, and leadership teams to shape workforce strategy, oversee change management, and ensure successful implementation across multiple lifecycle stages. The position is highly visible, meeting-focused, and requires a seasoned professional who can connect executive vision to practical execution while coaching managers through large-scale system implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Senior-level consulting and mentorship across UKG Scheduling Pro WFM and Workday HRIS projects, owning the overall workforce strategy and guiding program direction.
  • Work hand-in-hand with project managers on both programs to support project planning, execution, and delivery across discovery, build, testing, and go-live phases.
  • Participate in and lead planning sessions with project managers and smaller project teams, including steering committee preparation, and create clear, compelling slide decks and presentations.
  • Attend and actively contribute to design sessions, payroll discussions, and change impact workshops, ensuring requirements and implications are captured accurately.
  • Engage regularly with steering committees, executive stakeholders, and Senior leadership, presenting project status, key risks, and recommendations, and aligning decisions with strategic objectives.
  • Act as a connector between executive vision and operational execution, guiding decision-making on what issues to resolve within the team and what to escalate to Senior governance bodies.
  • Provide full project management support across both implementations, including coordination of activities, tracking progress, and maintaining momentum and structure across workstreams.
  • Oversee change management efforts in collaboration with embedded change leads, ensuring that change plans, communications, and training are aligned with project milestones and organizational needs.
  • Support and coach managers who are newer to large-scale implementations, helping them understand methodologies, governance expectations, and best practices for system deployment and adoption.
  • Guide subject matter experts through configuration and heavy testing phases for UKG and Workday, offering practical troubleshooting approaches and recommendations for issue resolution.
  • Attend end-user facing meetings at managerial and director levels, presenting project updates, explaining upcoming changes, answering questions, and preparing clear, accessible information for diverse audiences.
  • Participate in a range of meeting types, including planning, design, change-focused, forward-facing organizational updates, and strategic planning sessions, tailoring messaging to each audience.
  • Support recruitment and workforce optimization teams by aligning project decisions with broader workforce planning and optimization strategies.
  • Collaborate with HR and Talent Management stakeholders to ensure that system configuration, scheduling, and workforce models support clinical operations and broader talent strategies.
  • Provide strong “manage up” capabilities by engaging executives and steering committees effectively, offering top cover to project teams without overstepping governance boundaries.
  • Contribute to and maintain a self-sufficient workforce optimization function, working alongside project managers and analysts to sustain project continuity and long-term operational effectiveness.
  • Potentially conduct interviews or assessments for additional project support resources, helping to identify and onboard talent that strengthens delivery capacity.
  • Ensure alignment between UKG and Workday program activities, recognizing interdependencies and coordinating efforts across both platforms.
  • Maintain sensitivity and awareness of the unique operating style and complexity of the healthcare environment, adapting approaches to fit organizational culture and workflows.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 8–9 years of progressive experience moving from project management into a Senior consultant capacity, ideally within large-scale system implementation environments.
  • Demonstrated Senior-level consulting and mentorship experience, including creation, planning, and ownership of workforce strategy across complex programs.
  • Proven ability to work closely with project managers as a program director or consultant across multiple lifecycle stages, including discovery, build, testing, and go-live.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience providing full PM support across concurrent implementations and overseeing key teams such as recruitment and workforce optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday and UKG, including implementations where UKG replaces Kronos, and familiarity with configuration and intensive testing phases.
  • Robust strategic leadership capabilities, including executive alignment, steering committee engagement, and the ability to provide top cover while respecting governance structures.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and “manage up” skills, with a track record of engaging executives, steering committees, and Senior leaders in complex organizations.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, with the ability to propose practical troubleshooting approaches and structured ways to engage teams around complex issues.
  • Experience in healthcare or hospital environments, with exposure to clinical workforce models such as nursing and workforce planning.
  • Ability to operate across HR and Talent Management domains, understanding how scheduling, workforce planning, and HR processes intersect.
  • High level of technology and data orientation, including familiarity with system build, analytics, and data migration activities.
  • Comfort and effectiveness in highly meeting-focused roles, including presenting to managerial and director-level audiences and tailoring communication to different stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to function within a self-sufficient workforce optimization environment, collaborating effectively with project managers and analysts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of HR and scheduling processes and practices is an asset.
  • Exposure to Big Four consulting environments, particularly in relation to UKG and Workday programs, is ideal.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing change management initiatives in partnership with dedicated change leads.
  • Background in large, complex organizations, with the ability to navigate intricate governance structures and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong presentation and slide creation skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise, and visually engaging materials.
  • Experience coaching managers and leaders through first-time or early-stage exposure to large-scale technology implementations.
  • Comfort working across multiple programs and platforms simultaneously, managing priorities and interdependencies.
  • Ability to maintain continuity and structure in environments characterized by strong personalities and fast-paced change.

Work Environment

The role operates within a large, complex healthcare organization that follows a very flat structural model, where collaboration and shared ownership are the norm and expectation. The Senior Consultant works closely with two managers who currently report into the role and who bring strong personalities and perspectives, making it important to maintain structure, momentum, and clear communication. The environment is highly project-driven, with significant overlap across workforce optimization, HR, and clinical operations, and requires awareness and sensitivity to the organization's specific ways of working. The position is part-time at three days per week, with a hybrid work arrangement that is dependent on project needs.
