The Safety Manager will serve as the strategic architect of Amalgamated Mining Group of Companies safety program, ensuring a proactive, data-driven, and regulatory-compliant safety culture across all divisions. This role translates safety principles into actionable standards for mining equipment operations, testing, movement, and maintenance, while partnering with Operations leadership to safeguard every level of the organization. By providing sign-off authority on safety compliance and leading training and certification initiatives, the Safety Manager will drive continuous safety performance improvements, standardization, and accountability, enabling safe, efficient operations and alignment with industry best practices. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization-wide safety program across all divisions, tailoring initiatives to meet specific operational needs.
- Support safety procedures related to mining equipment, testing, movement, and maintenance across all operational areas.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections of equipment, work areas, and operational practices;identifyrisks and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and other teams toidentifyand mitigate safety risks; ensuretimelyresolution and closeout of corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements;maintainup-to-date knowledge of applicable laws and industry best practices.
- Maintainaccuraterecords of safety inspections, certifications, training activities, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Lead,facilitate, and promote safety training programs; coordinate training delivery and track participant certifications.
- Foster a safety-first culture by communicating expectations, recognizing safe practices, and driving accountability at all organizational levels.
- Provide sign-off authority on safety compliance related to equipment, operations, and site activities, subject to approval by theChief Operating Officer.
- Monitor safety program effectiveness through metrics and regular reporting; implement improvements to enhance safety performance and compliance.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience with mining equipment and safety protocols within the mining industry.
- Train-the-Trainer certification or willingness to obtain such certification.
- Knowledge of testing, certification processes, and safe movement of equipment.
- Strong communicationand training skills.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification is preferred.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety programs is highly desirable.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams to promote safety.
- Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Physically capable of standing, walking, and performing safety inspections inin mobile maintenance shops and office space.
- Willingness to travel between multiple operational sitesin Canada and the United Statesasrequired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understand and interpret applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
