Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all shipping, receiving, and yard operations while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. This position ensures customer orders are accurately filled, loaded, and shipped on time while supervising staff, maintaining equipment, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Ensure customer orders are accurately picked, loaded, and shipped according to daily requirements.
  • Complete daily load checks and identify shipment shortages or discrepancies, providing recommendations to avoid future issues.
  • Ensure all orders are returned, finalized, and forwarded to the invoicing department.
  • Verify purchase orders against bills of lading and identify any shortages or shipping issues.
  • Coordinate and distribute daily workloads to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure the shipping yard and warehouse remain clean, organized, and free from safety hazards.
  • Operate, assist, or provide coverage for Forklift Operators and/or Truck Drivers when required.
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure fleet maintenance remains current and all equipment is operating safely.
  • Promote and maintain positive working relationships with all employees through effective communication and leadership.
  • Ensure customers receive orders accurately and on schedule.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate issues to the Management Team when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to improve shipping processes, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Support continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, lumber, or trucking distribution.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of lumber and/or building products is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

Education / Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift Certification preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Experience in the lumber, building products, transportation, or distribution industry is considered an asset.
