Position Summary

The R&D Technician supports the Research & Development team in executing product development initiatives, conducting trial formulations, and documenting experimental outcomes. This role ensures accurate testing, reliable data collection, and effective communication of results that contribute to both innovation and product optimization. You will work onsite alongside crossfunctional colleagues in a fastpaced manufacturing environment, helping translate creative product concepts into scalable, highquality brand offerings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute product trials and experimental formulations under the direction of the Head of R&D and QA
  • Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients according to standardized formulations.
  • Conduct physical, chemical, and sensory tests (as required), ensuring proper methodology and accurate data capture.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory and pilotscale equipment safely and according to SOPs.
  • Record results meticulously and contribute to clear technical reports and batch records.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts for product issues during development and scaleup.
  • Assist with shelflife studies, stability checks, and documentation of findings.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant R&D workspace (food safety, sanitation, and GMP).
  • Assist crossfunctional teams (Quality, Production, Packaging) to ensure seamless transition from trial to production.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide insights or observations that support product improvement.

Qualifications Required:

  • Diploma or degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Food Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 13 years of handson experience in a food, beverage, or consumer packaged goods R&D, quality, or lab environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation practices.
  • Comfortable working with standard lab and pilot plant equipment.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.

Asset Qualifications:

  • Experience with formulation software or database systems. Knowledge of Genesis is an asset
  • Knowledge of food regulations (e.g., CFIA, GMP, HACCP principles).
  • Sensory evaluation experience.
