Job Details:
We are seeking a forward-thinking and strategically minded Financial Controller to support the ongoing transformation of Mancal Energy Inc. This role plays a critical leadership position within the Finance function, contributing to the integrity of financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.
The Financial Controller will partner closely with Finance Leadership and cross-functional teams to enhance financial insight, drive process improvements, and support the organizations long-term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Support the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to stakeholders, with a focus on enhancing transparency and decision-useful information.
- Provide analysis and interpretation of financial results, identifying key trends, risks, and opportunities to inform leadership decisions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial reporting processes, ensuring alignment with best practices and evolving business needs.
Technical Accounting & Policy
- Act as a subject matter expert on IFRS and complex accounting matters, providing guidance and recommendations on emerging issues and non-routine transactions.
- Lead or support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of accounting policies and practices.
- Ensure financial reporting remains compliant with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Planning, Forecasting & Business Partnership
- Partner with Finance Leadership to support the budgeting and forecasting processes, helping to translate operational drivers into financial outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial understanding and alignment between Finance and the business.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives by providing financial perspectives and scenario analysis.
Governance, Controls & Risk Management
- Strengthen the internal control environment through the design, implementation, and monitoring of effective processes and controls.
- Support the coordination of external audits and act as a key point of contact for auditors.
- Oversee regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Process Improvement & Transformation
- Identify and lead opportunities to enhance efficiency, automation, and scalability within Finance processes.
- Support the implementation and optimization of financial systems and data tools.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives that elevate the effectiveness of the Finance function.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Contribute to building bench strength within the Finance team and supporting future leadership development.
- Foster a problem-solving mindset within the team by proactively identifying issues, navigating ambiguity, and driving practical, well-reasoned solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- CPA designation with 8+ years of progressive experience, preferably within upstream oil & gas and/or public accounting.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and experience applying technical accounting guidance in a practical setting.
- Demonstrated ability to translate financial data into meaningful insights for business decision-making.
- Experience contributing to process improvements, system implementations, or finance transformation initiatives.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Experience mentoring or leading others.
