Birla Carbon is currently recruiting for a Purchasing Manager to join our team. The Purchasing Manager will be primarily responsible for developing, leading and execute North America purchasing strategies including sourcing equipment, goods and services and managing suppliers across multiple categories of spend.

Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain and optimize relationships with suppliers; lead vendor selection process; assess, manage and mitigate supplier risks; conduct quarterly evaluations of suppliers; monitor non-compliance incidents and ensure corrective actions implemented.
- Approve or reject prices, terms, delivery dates, freight costs if not in line with policies or established procedures. Identify cost saving opportunities for the plant; develops competitive/benchmarking information regarding suppliers, costs, and logistics associated with these purchases.
- Assists plant supervisors with purchases, outside services and contracts including information, policies and procedures, to ensure compliance within the purchasing system and protection of Companys legal position in purchasing related matters.
- Develop and maintains sources of supply in conjunction with corporate purchasing and strategic planning, and establishes and maintains relationships with current and prospective suppliers in all areas of responsibility.
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies; track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness; develop negotiation strategies and closingdeals with optimal terms; perform cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking
- Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
- Resolves contractual issues and related problems/issues with suppliers.
- Develop and implement purchasing policies including the development, implementation and review of SOP's and KPI's.
- Perform related responsibilities and special assignments as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field and progressively responsible experience related to above responsibilities.
- Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation or registration in the educational program of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada strongly preferred.
- Experience in negotiations, business/contract law, domestic and international commerce, budgeting and forecasting for strategic planning, financial controls and audit procedures.
- Knowledge of and broad-based experience in purchasing of materials and general service contracts, including, but not limited to, packaging, capital/construction projects, equipment, general supplies and lease agreements.
- Proficiency in the use of MRP systems (SAP) for purchase order/request for quotation preparation
- Excellent time and project management skills is essential
- Experience in a continuous process and/or manufacturing operation is an asset.
