As aMechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and enhancement of both new and existing products. Your responsibilities will include creating detailed CAD models, performing tolerance analysis, and ensuring design modifications meet both functional and manufacturing requirements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of product designs and the achievement of project goals.
KeyAccountabilities:
Design & Development
- Createmechanicalmodels and CAD drawings for new products and maintain existing product designs.
- Prepare detailed, production-quality CAD drawings and review for accuracy and completeness.
- Calculate tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies and assemblies.
- Apply design-for-assembly principles and cost considerations throughout the design process.
- Conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and other product-related analyses.
- Ensure all designs adhere to internal and global design standards.
Collaboration & Problem Solving
- Work closely withcross functiona teams in value stream such asproduct teams, and manufacturing personnel to address design challenges and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with suppliers and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary product certifications.
- Engage with sales and customer service teams to understand and address customer-driven needs.
Documentation & Process Improvement
- Maintain both electronic and hard copies of documentation for new and existing products.
- Provide input on process improvements, including opportunities to enhance documentation practices and design efficiency.
- Calculate tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies and assemblies.
- Prepare detailed, production-quality CAD drawings and review them for accuracy and completeness.
- Apply analysis, design-for-assembly principles, and cost criteria throughout the design process.
- Liaise with testing and regulatory agencies to obtain necessary certifications.
- Develop and adhere to internal and global design standards.
- Work with sales and customer service teams to address customer-driven needs.
What Were Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 2-3 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer (required).
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards.
- Experience in designing electromechanical systems and controls (preferred).
- Experience withPLM andERP systems (e.g., Infor, SAP).
- Experience with work management and knowledge sharing tools (Jira & Confluence) is an asset.
- Software RequirementsStrong proficiency in SolidWorks 3D, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with scripting(e.g. Python)/SolidworksAPIs, Macros, and/orother design/development automation technicsis a strong asset
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to engage in off-site assignments, including lab work and field visits.
- Willingness to travel including potential for international travel (e.g., Canada).
- High level of personal accountability and a strong cultural fit with the U.S. team.
