Reports to: Yard Manager
Location: Ottawa
Pay Rate: $23.69 /hour and Bi-weekly rotational shifts including 5AM- 3PM, 7AM-4PM , 11AM-8:30PM but subject to change depending on when trucks are done being unloaded

Responsibilities

  • Provide shipping and receiving support to customers for orders and returns.
  • Assist other Yard/Forklift Operators with manually picking materials such as drywall, mud, tape, steel, and other building products.
  • Operate a propane-powered counterbalance forklift to load and unload trucks as directed by the supervisor.
  • Assist truck drivers with loading merchandise and materials, ensuring products are handled safely and securely to prevent damage.
  • Assist truck drivers with unloading and processing returned merchandise, ensuring returned items are placed in the proper storage location and maintained in saleable condition.
  • Unload incoming freight and verify quantities against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
  • Complete required documentation, including order verification, receiving reports, and forklift inspection checklists.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard, warehouse, and work area.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner, following established safety procedures and remaining alert to unsafe conditions.
  • Load customer orders accurately and safely.
  • Maintain knowledge of inventory locations and product identification.
  • Locate and pick the correct products by type, style, and quantity to accurately fulfill customer and transfer orders.
  • Assist supervisors, coworkers, and other departments as required to support operational needs.
  • Perform snow removal and salting duties as required during winter months.
  • Conduct daily pre-operational forklift inspections and report any equipment deficiencies.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Be available to work one mandatory Saturday in July prior to the Civic Holiday weekend to support annual inventory activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of the business.

Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities

  • CSA Approved Steel-toed boots (8 high)
  • 6 months to 1 year of Forklift experience
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to do basic math, read instructions and complete forms in a timely manner
  • Communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal & written skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment as prescribed in designated areas
  • Strength (lift, carry, push and pull):Maximum lift, 100 lbs.; Frequently lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, with manual dexterity and see (acuity, depth perception, field of vision, accommodation)
  • Reach overhead to grasp materials.

License and Certification

  • Valid Forklift Certification is considered an asset
  • Valid Working at Heights Certification is considered an asset

Environment and Working Conditions

  • Work with mechanical equipment on daily basis.
  • Work outside in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold.
