Job Summary:
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, control, and completion of mechanical and HVAC projects for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. The successful candidate will manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, procurement, quality control, and client communication while ensuring full compliance with company standards, provincial codes, safety policies, and contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end execution of mechanical construction: HVAC, plumbing, hydronic heating, refrigeration, and retrofit projects (planning, scheduling, commissioning, closeout)
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, and field staff; provide mentorship to junior team members
- Review drawings, specifications, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Manage budgets, forecasting, procurement, and contract administration, including change orders and RFIs
- Act as primary client contact, maintaining strong relationships and resolving project issues
- Provide technical oversight, ensuring QA/QC standards, proper system operation, and documentation accuracy
- Promote and enforce safety standards through site visits and compliance monitoring
- Maintain project documentation and reporting, including progress updates and turnover packages
Qualifications:
- 5+ years' project management experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, or related fields
- Strong knowledge of commercial/institutional mechanical systems and relevant codes (ABSA, B31.5, B52, Alberta codes)
- Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and teams
- Proficiency with tools such as MS Project, Excel, and construction software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore)
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver's license
Preferred:
- Journeyman/Red Seal certification in a mechanical trade
- PMP or formal project management training
- Experience with estimating, takeoffs, and QA/QC processes
