INTRODUCTION:

Commissionaires Great Lakes (CGL) is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1925 on a mandate that prioritizes providing meaningful employment for veterans and others committed to the well-being of Canadians primarily in security guard and related services. Spanning Central and Southwestern Ontario, our services are customized to respond to the dynamic and evolving security needs of both private and public sector clients. These include uniformed guard, mobile response and support services, by-law enforcement and identification services.

We are currently seeking a Commissionaire to join our growing team. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

WHAT OUR EXCEPTIONAL COMMISSIONAIRES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for safeguarding property against theft, damage, and safety hazards. The Security Guard ensures the protection of all individuals on the premises by conducting routine patrols, monitoring for irregularities, and inspecting safety and fire-control equipment.
Essential Functions

1. Patrol Duties

  • Guard, patrol, and monitor areas to prevent safety hazards, theft, violence, and rule infractions.
  • Interact with visitors, patrons, and employees to maintain order and protect property.
  • Inspect commercial premises to detect signs of intrusion and verify the security of doors, windows, and gates

2. Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including fires, chemical spills, medical incidents, and phone threats.
  • Investigate alarms, disturbances, and unusual activities.

3. Customer Service

  • Provide customer service in alignment with company standards and expectations.
  • Escort occupants upon request.
  • Offer public assistance, including lockout support and general information.

4. Reporting and Communication

  • Immediately report incidents, hazards, or irregularities to designated company and client personnel.
  • Answer telephone calls during non-business hours to relay messages, provide information, and address inquiries.

5. Documentation

  • Prepare detailed reports of daily activities, incidents, property damage, theft, unauthorized persons, and usual occurrences.

6. Access Control

  • Monitor and authorize entry and exit of employees, visitors, and other individuals to prevent theft and maintain a secure environment.

7. Task Completion

  • Complete all assigned daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities.

8. Additional Duties

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management based on operational needs.

9. Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings and potential hazards.
  • Demonstrate clear thinking and sound judgement during crises or high-stress situations.
  • Exhibit empathy and professionalism when assisting employees and addressing concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and interact appropriately with all individuals on site.
  • Maintain open communication with the Security Team, sharing information relevant to operations.
  • Show willingness to learn all aspects of the position and progress through the Level system with the required timeframe.
  • Obtain Security Control certification within six months of hire, in accordance with the level progression policy.
  • Use proper body mechanics while performing all job functions.

    Valid First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Good Computer skills especially with MS Office suite and ability to learn to use Security management and CRM software.
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk (1-2 hours every 4 hours) for long periods of time
  • Ability to complete frequent patrols
  • Ability to speak/read/communicate in English (fluently), ability to speak French is consider an asset
