Position Overview
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site construction activities across multiple projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture by leading through example and holding site personnel and subcontractors accountable.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Safety Manager to ensure all health and safety programs, procedures, and regulations are effectively implemented and followed.
- Work closely with Site Coordinators to maintain compliance with all on-site safety requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections and address any safety concerns promptly.
- Lead, supervise, coach, train, and mentor project team members and subcontractors.
- Communicate effectively with site personnel and trade partners to ensure productivity, quality, performance, and safety expectations are achieved.
- Collaborate with the project team to identify risks, resolve issues, and mitigate schedule conflicts or work interferences.
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and implement recovery plans when required to maintain project timelines.
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and execution of project schedules and work plans.
- Monitor project progress to ensure compliance with budget, schedule, quality, and contractual requirements.
- Review and understand project contracts and subcontract agreements.
- Lead and facilitate site meetings with clients, consultants, project teams, and subcontractors.
- Support company initiatives and perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications & Education
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in a related field such as:
- Construction Management
- Building Science
- Architecture
- Engineering
- Other related disciplines
- Additional management education is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of construction site supervision experience.
- Minimum 5 years of construction industry experience.
- Experience managing multifamily residential new construction projects is preferred.
- Proven ability to successfully supervise and lead construction teams.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, specifications, procedures, and industry best practices.
- Experience coordinating multiple scopes of work on complex construction projects.
- Working knowledge of contract administration and contract language.
- Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation and regulations.
- Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
- Proficiency with construction management software and virtual construction tools.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
