Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor , the UV Coater Operator position is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting UV coating equipment to ensure high-quality finished products are produced according to job specifications and company quality standards. Working directly with Production and Finishing staff, the UV Coater Operator is responsible for completing production requirements while maintaining safety, quality, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

General and Administrative

  • Coordinate with the Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize workflow to meet deadline changes and updates.
  • Comply with all OHSA safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with Supervisors and Production Team members, informing and updating them regularly to ensure production objectives are met.
  • Follow systems and procedures outlined in the company Procedure Manual.

UV Coating Operations

  • Set up, operate, and monitor UV Coater equipment.
  • Retrieve the correct work order and load the job according to production specifications.
  • Adjust machine settings to achieve required coating quality and production specifications.
  • Perform test runs and verify coating quality before full production.
  • Monitor UV curing systems and coating application consistency.
  • Inspect printed materials before, during, and after coating.
  • Maintain coating quality standards and consistency throughout production runs.
  • Identify and resolve coating defects such as streaking, spotting, scuffing, curing issues, and other coating irregularities.
  • Complete production reports, quality documentation, job dockets, and computer records as required.
  • Perform quality control checks on finished products and ensure compliance with company quality standards.
  • Visually inspect jobs for imperfections and make adjustments as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety equipment and proper operating procedures.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that may arise and/or report them to the Production Supervisor.
  • Ensure the machine and surrounding work area are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment and Supplies

  • Perform daily, weekly, and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Clean coating units, rollers, UV lamps, and related machine components.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs when necessary.
  • Report equipment performance concerns to supervisors.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs.

Key Experience & Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification.
  • Experience operating UV coating, print finishing, or related printing equipment.
  • Knowledge of UV coating processes and curing systems.
  • Ability to read job dockets and production specifications.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good written, verbal and mathematical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently and as a member of the team.

Pay Rate: $20.00 - $23.00
