Since 1954, CCI Ottawa has been dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and inclusive city where immigrants and refugees are supported, connected, and empowered. We are a full service settlement agency with multiple departments that offer a wide range of programs and services. Using a client-centered approach, we offer targeted case management. We do needs assessments, support with official documents and paperwork, information and orientation sessions, crisis counselling, housing assistance, translation, language classes, and help navigating public services and agencies such as healthcare, the CRA, Service Ontario, and many others. In addition we offer programs that help newcomers become socially and economically connected, whether through sports, recreation, cultural activities, or job search and networking support. CCI also offers these services in a youth specific context. Finally, CCI Ottawa operates 4 Transitional Housing Sites. Each site provides shelter, food, and wrap around services to support clients as they move into permanent accommodations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Client Support Services CSS provides intensive case management services to meet the complex settlement needs of Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs). Under the direction of the Program Manager, the CSS Coordinator supports the development and delivery of the CSS program and the supervision of CSS staff.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the CSS Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate quality services by planning, implementing and evaluating program activities
  • Support the implementation of program activities in alignment with IRCCs case management framework, ensuring services are delivered consistently, ethically, and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Support with the onboarding, training and supervision of CSS staff, interpreters, students & volunteers
  • Support and coach Caseworkers, including in times of client crisis situations
  • Liaise and build collaborative relationships with community service providers to strengthen coordination and promote understanding of GAR needs
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and outreach strategies, including educational materials and initiatives, to address service gaps and respond to evolving client needs
  • Ensure seamless, coordinated services between RAP-CSS-ISS and other CCI services
  • Collect and analyze statistical data and provide activity reports as required
  • Create program material and procedures to facilitate everyday operations and ensure that all office systems in place are running smoothly
  • Ensure that clients are served in the language of their choice

Other responsibilities:

  • Promote the vision, mission and activities of CCI
  • Assist with activities and events that contribute to the positive image of CCI
  • Participate in and contribute to the CSS National Coordination program, as well as in a variety of community-based networks, coalitions and committees
  • Support the development of new program areas
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers, interpreters, students and staff to ensure efficient and effective management of CCI events and activities
  • May occasionally be required to perform duties not set forth in the job description

Organizational Relationships:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the CSS Program Manager
  • Has supervisory responsibility for and frequent contact with CSS staff, students and volunteers.
  • Works in close partnership with Caseworkers who provide direct services to clients
  • Has regular contact with and supports the activities of the volunteer and fundraising programs
  • Has some contact with the senior management and board members

QUALIFICATIONS

The CSS Coordinator understands and supports CCIs mission and has knowledge of the newcomer market in Ottawa. This position requires strong communications and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational abilities and exceptional cultural competency. The CSS Coordinators must be a self-starter with initiative who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Post-secondary education in a Human Services field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Cross-cultural competence and ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to deal with complex issues and confidential material and matters
  • Experience in working with clients with high needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in French is a strong asset
  • Ability to perform duties independently or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to facilitate workshops and presentations with clients and community services
  • Understanding of budgeting and ability to meet reporting requirements
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency with computer technology, including Microsoft Office 365, as well as the Salesforce database system
