You will apply engineering principles to ensure that parts meet the required design tolerances and fitment standards throughout the manufacturing process. Strong problem-solving abilities, proficiency in 3D CAD software, and a deep understanding on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is essential.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform dimensional analysis of automotive parts and assemblies using CMMs, laser scanners, optical systems, and other metrology equipment.
- Perform statistical tolerance analyses, using RSS, Monte Carlo & 3D variation software like Cetol 6 sigma.
- Program and operate CMMs (PC-DMIS) to inspect injection-molded components and assemblies.
- Develop and apply GD&T strategies, datum schemes, and tolerance analyses to support product functionality and manufacturability.
- Conduct capability studies, statistical analyses, and data validation to evaluate dimensional performance and process stability.
- Support design reviews by assessing part interfaces, mating conditions, and dimensional risks.
- Lead check fixture development, including RFQs, design reviews, and build approvals.
- Investigate and resolve dimensional and functional concerns such as fit, flush and gap, alignment, and noise issues.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to drive data-based problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to reduce variation and improve product quality.
- Review supplier dimensional data and ensure compliance with quality, inspection, and calibration requirements.
- Maintain dimensional documentation, prepare technical reports, and support audits and regulatory compliance activities.
- Support global dimensional engineering initiatives, standards development, and knowledge sharing across teams.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in metrology, dimensional engineering, and gage/fixture engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Expert knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), datum strategy development, and engineering drawing/3D model interpretation.
- Proficiency in CMM programming and operation (PC-DMIS) and dimensional measurement planning.
- Strong understanding of metrology principles, measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC, capability studies, and statistical data analysis using tools such as Minitab, Excel, and DCS/QDM.
- Experience with advanced measurement technologies including CMMs, laser scanners, optical measurement systems, and related metrology equipment.
- Working knowledge of injection molding processes, dimensional variation, and tolerance management.
- Experience supporting product launches, PPAP activities, supplier quality, and dimensional validation from development through production.
- Familiarity with automotive quality standards and methodologies, including IATF 16949, ISO 9001, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for design review and dimensional evaluation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience with data automation tools (Python, VBA, SQL), Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or metrology certifications is considered an asset.
