About the RoleAs a Manufacturing Technologist, your role will be vital in fostering and executing Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives across manufacturing operations, primarily focusing on optimizing production processes, improving manufacturability, designing mechanical solutions and providing technical support to cross-functional teams where required. Reporting to the CI Manager this role requires a hands-on manufacturing professional with strong mechanical design aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.

You are comfortable dividing your time between CAD design work and hands-on activities on the production floor. You enjoy collaborating with different teams, investigating manufacturing challenges, developing detailed technical designs and drawings, and seeing projects through from concept to implementation.
What You Will Do- Work closely with the CI Manager and cross-functional teams to identify, prioritize, and execute CI projects aligned with company strategic objectives and priorities
- Assist in developing conceptual ideas through draft sketches on paper and through to completion of detailed models and drawings, utilizing CAD software packages as necessary
- Creating and updating technical drawings and schematics with the use of Solidworks, AutoCAD and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
- Modify products and process-related consumables to improve manufacturability and reduce operational inefficiencies
- Support Operations Team in process mapping value stream analysis, and workflow assessments to identify improvement opportunities, addressing process bottlenecks and recommending best manufacturing solutions
- Perform work measurement studies (takt time, cycle time, time studies) to support productivity improvements.
- Support Lean initiatives including Kaizen events, 6S, and standardization efforts.
- Apply engineering principles, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles in collaboration with Product Design and Production teams to improve manufacturability of products, product design, equipment/facilities to reduce waste and streamline process operations.
- Initiate innovative solutions to automate and error-proofing the manufacturing processes.
- Identify process bottlenecks and recommend scalable manufacturing improvements.
- Liaison between the product design, production team in identifying, designing and developing mechanical solutions such as jigs, fixtures, and production aids to improve safety, repeatability, and efficiency.
- Collaborate in researching materials and techniques used for improving product manufacturability and manufacturing processes.
- Support implementation of optimized manufacturing methods using engineering analysis and hands-on validation.
- Develop manufacturing procedures (SOP's), clear technical documents and manufacturing guidelines.
- Assist the product design and in production testing of new products and new product configurations, tools and equipment through practical methods.
- Plan, develop and maintain detailed plant and equipment layout drawings.
- Analyze production processes, equipment positioning to identify opportunities for layout improvements, and in optimizing space utilization and improve workflow.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of layout with operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards during layout planning.
- Support capital expenditure projects by defining equipment requirements, space allocation, utilities, and infrastructure needs.
- Assist and provide support in explaining technical concepts to non-technical personnel and internal stakeholders.
- Gather inputs from the production managers, production staff and internal stakeholders and integrating feedback into solutions
- Provide guidance and training to team members as required.
- Prepare reports and data use for identifying areas of improvements in manufacturing
- Assist the CI Manager in coordinating and managing tasks and activities related to CI projects to ensure timely completion
- Follow-up progress and maintaining an updated CI log.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by your manager.
- Diploma or degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering technology, or related field.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in supporting Continuous Improvement projects and creating CAD documentation within a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes using Lean, Kaizen, or similar methodologies
- Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD design software packages such as SolidWorks, AutoDesk (AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of engineering principles and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience with physical assembly of equipment, machinery as well as fundamentals of construction.
- Knowledge of ergonomics, regulatory and industrial safety requirements for plant and equipment layout and planning.
- Strong analytical, root-cause problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge of process mapping and work measurement techniques
- Matrix oriented, with the ability to work on a wide breadth of teams, effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Detail oriented, and commitment to quality and manufacturability of products
- Project management experience managing CI initiatives from concept to implementation.
- Basic understanding of rapid prototyping and 3D printing
- Mechatronics background, including knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, and interlocks, is considered an asset.
- Salary Range: $75,000 – $90,000 CAD annually, based on experience.
