Job Summary

We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented SMT Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating, setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used in PCB assembly and electronic manufacturing processes. This role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor SMT production equipment including:
  • Pick-and-place machines
  • Reflow ovens
  • Solder paste printers
  • Automated optical inspection (AOI) systems
  • Load feeders, components, and PCB assemblies according to production schedules
  • Ensure accurate placement of electronic components on printed circuit boards (PCBs)
  • Perform machine changeovers, adjustments, and basic troubleshooting
  • Inspect boards for solder quality, alignment, and placement accuracy
  • Identify defects and report quality concerns to supervisors or quality teams
  • Maintain proper documentation of production output, downtime, and machine performance
  • Follow IPC standards, ESD procedures, and company safety protocols
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and cleaning of SMT equipment
  • Work collaboratively with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to meet production targets
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with manufacturing standards

Qualifications & RequirementsEducation & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Technical certification in electronics, manufacturing, or related field preferred
  • IPC certification such as IPC-A-610 considered an asset

Experience

  • 1–3 years of manufacturing, assembly, or electronics production experience preferred
  • Previous SMT machine operating experience is an asset
  • Experience working with PCB assembly processes preferred
  • Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) handling procedures

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes
  • Knowledge of PCB assembly and electronic components
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot SMT machinery
  • Familiarity with quality inspection tools and procedures
  • Ability to read work instructions, production documents, and basic technical drawings

Work Environment

  • Clean and controlled electronics manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to electronic equipment, soldering materials, and cleaning solvents
  • Must follow ESD and safety procedures at all times
  • May require overtime or shift flexibility based on production needs
