Contract Position: 1 Year Contract (10 Month - Salaried Position)
This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Strathcona High School Fitness Centre and Emergency First Aid in and around the school for our students, staff, and team sports.
Duties
- Ensures the Physical Activity and Wellness Centre is operating in a safe and effective manner; ensures relevant policies and procedures are followed
- Provides emergency first aid/care for students involved in high school athletics and regular student body
- Promotes health and wellness to students and staff of the school
- Offering expertise to support Comprehensive School Health initiatives
- Willingness to host staff events to promote wellness as professional development
- Oversees strength and conditioning programs operating in the school
- Prepares and maintains various administrative documents (i.e. schedules, maintenance logs, accident reports)
- Responsible for coordinating instructors for group fitness classes within the Physical Education curriculum and outside of regular class time for students and school staff
- Ensures the Physical Activity and Wellness Centre complies with all safety, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Ensures all fitness equipment is safe, properly maintained, and has a documented maintenance record
- Develops and delivers a variety of sport, fitness, health, wellness and nutrition courses and programs
- Supports athletic teams as an athletic trainer by providing emergency first aid, athletic taping, and injury management.
- Attending all football and rugby events
- Supporting our volleyball and basketball programs through attendance at our home tournament
- Prepares facility education information, user schedules, program documents, etc.
- Collaborates with Physical Education and Sport Performance staff to create inclusive workout programs that meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
- Including providing instructional support to “Block Zero” Sport Performance class(es)
- Instructs Standard First Aid for all Physical Education 10 students and teaches the recertification course for teachers and support staff.
- Responsible for adhering to a yearly budget

Qualifications
- Diploma in Physical Education, Recreation Administration, Kinesiology or related field; degree preferred
- CSEP - CPT Certification required or NSCA - Strength and Conditioning Specialist required
- Current CPR and standard First Aid qualifications required
- AFLCA Group Fitness Instructor is not required but would be an asset
- Lifesaving Society First Aid Instructor is not required but would be an asset
- Must complete a Criminal Record Check (current within 1 year)
- Must complete a Child Endangerment Check (current within 1 year)
