Core Responsibilities

  • Perform site preparation including layout marking, traffic control setup, and cleanup.
  • Assist with cutting pavement slots and preparing sensor layouts.
  • Install sensor wire and apply sealant under supervision.
  • Perform basic electrical tests (continuity, resistance) with guidance.
  • Document work performed. Maintain tools and organize materials.
  • Support troubleshooting by identifying visible damage or simple faults.
  • Follow all jobsite safety protocols, including PPE, traffic control, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure safe operation of cutting and drilling equipment.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of hand tools and construction practices.
  • Willingness to learn electrical concepts and traffic sensor theory.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and performing physical labor.
  • Available to travel with crew throughout Alberta.
  • The ability to communicate with project managers, traffic control technicians, and construction crews.

Experience

  • 0–2 years in construction, electrical, traffic, or related fields.
  • Prior Traffic Sensor installation experience is helpful but not required.

Nice to Have

  • Some experience installing or servicing inductive loops or related detection systems.
  • Some experience leading crews or managing field operations.
  • Some experience with Weigh-In-Motion sensors (piezo, quartz, MSI BL).

Growth Path

  • Progression toward independent Traffic Sensor installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Opportunity to train toward Weigh-In-Motion specific skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate concrete saws for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working near active roadways with proper safety controls.
