Core Responsibilities
- Perform site preparation including layout marking, traffic control setup, and cleanup.
- Assist with cutting pavement slots and preparing sensor layouts.
- Install sensor wire and apply sealant under supervision.
- Perform basic electrical tests (continuity, resistance) with guidance.
- Document work performed. Maintain tools and organize materials.
- Support troubleshooting by identifying visible damage or simple faults.
- Follow all jobsite safety protocols, including PPE, traffic control, and equipment operation.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and ensure safe operation of cutting and drilling equipment.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of hand tools and construction practices.
- Willingness to learn electrical concepts and traffic sensor theory.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely.
- Comfortable working outdoors and performing physical labor.
- Available to travel with crew throughout Alberta.
- The ability to communicate with project managers, traffic control technicians, and construction crews.
Experience
- 0–2 years in construction, electrical, traffic, or related fields.
- Prior Traffic Sensor installation experience is helpful but not required.
Nice to Have
- Some experience installing or servicing inductive loops or related detection systems.
- Some experience leading crews or managing field operations.
- Some experience with Weigh-In-Motion sensors (piezo, quartz, MSI BL).
Growth Path
- Progression toward independent Traffic Sensor installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Opportunity to train toward Weigh-In-Motion specific skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and operate concrete saws for extended periods.
- Comfortable working near active roadways with proper safety controls.
