Detailed Description

Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supporting the maintenance team in a fast-paced 24/7 manufacturing environment. This role requires a strong hands-on approach, with the majority of time spent on the production floor supporting troubleshooting, repairs, breakdown response, preventative maintenance, and day-to-day maintenance coordination.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful candidate will ensure work is completed safely and efficiently, support production uptime, manage maintenance shop and spare parts inventory, drive continuous improvement and asset reliability, and maintain accurate records through the CMMS system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, and breakdown response on blow molding, injection molding, and auxiliary equipment — spending approximately 80% of time on the production floor.
  • Lead machine rebuilds, overhauls, and equipment installations.
  • Apply structured problem-solving to diagnose complex equipment issues and make sound technical decisions under production pressure.
  • Prioritize, and schedule daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities to minimize downtime and support production goals.
  • Assign and close work orders, maintain asset records and PM schedules, generate reliability and performance reports through CMMS.
  • Manage spare parts inventory — critical spares lists, min/max levels, organized storage, and replenishment coordination to prevent stock-outs.
  • Drive continuous improvement and asset redesign projects to permanently eliminate recurring failures; use CAD or sketches to specify modifications and custom parts.
  • Track and improve key reliability metrics: MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, unplanned downtime, and OEE Availability.
  • Complete end-of-shift reports; develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for recurring maintenance tasks and major rebuilds.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field is preferred. Millwright Red Seal is a strong asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, P&IDs, and blueprints.
  • Experience in plastic blow molding (EBM, IBM, or ISBM) and/or injection molding operations is a strong asset.
  • Must have tools in order to perform all functions of the job/position.

Working Conditions

  • Industrial/manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, heat, and chemicals.
  • Approximately 80% of time on the production floor; requires standing, bending, climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • Primarily day shift; on-call availability for major breakdowns and occasional evening/weekend presence during planned shutdowns.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols, including PPE and GMP attire in food-contact production areas, is mandatory.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
