Job brief

We are looking for a Production Manager to manage our client's Mining Canada production operations, through planning, coordinating, and controlling the production processes, and ensure that volume, cost, quality, and safety standards are achieved (production performance) to ensure that the company will be their customers first choice service provider.

Responsibilities
  • To manage the process, people, and plant to meet minimum legislative compliance and adherence to the applicable acts and company management system standards and licenses.
  • To manage processing or production demand against the plan by assessing and managing installed capacity to meet the future demands for products and crafting a planfor production volumes by making decisions concerning inventory levels (raw material) and staffing requirements, production capacity, work procedures or duty assignments considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • To develop and manage the production budget and implement effective cost control programs to ensure that production financial objectives and targets are met (fixed cost and waste reduction).
  • To manage the direct reports activities including workflow, assembly methods, and workforce utilisation to ensure people productivity is achieved.
  • To drive continuous improvement throughout the production value chain.
  • Evaluate and implement the latest production management techniques, systems, or processes to achieve continuous improvement objectives.
  • Assist in achieving benchmarking against best practices.
  • To manage production value chain effectiveness and review operations (facilities, equipment use, maintenance, modification of procurement, etc.) and consult with relevant stakeholders to resolve production and processing problems.
  • To manage all aspects of human capital through the HR value chain and in accordance with legislation.
  • To ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant stakeholders.
  • Assisting to develop, implement, monitor, and improving the product management framework, including production capacity requirements to ensure operational excellence.
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to management system standards such as production work instructions and control charts to ensure standardisation of work practices, consistency of end products, and safe execution of work tasks.
  • Embed and enhance the required production disciplines and culture in line with that of the company and Group.
  • To ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant stakeholders.
  • To ensure that all relevant regulatory and internal procedural standard requirements are met by ensuring effective management of SHERQ, compliance, and adherence to stipulated disciplines for continuous improvement of occupational health and safety, environment, and quality factors that impact the organisation.
  • To develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems as well as analyse the production, quality control, maintenance, or other operational reports to detect deviations and take corrective measures.
  • To select, manage and monitor the security loss prevention and access control procedures and resources at the various production facilities responsible for, complying with legislation and preventing shrinkage.
  • To provide subject matter expertise and knowledge sharing to various stakeholders with regards to products, production, quality (including customer complaint investigations), risk assessments, reviews, modifications, improvement, substitute raw materials, training and training content establishment and review as well as commercialisation of new products and process lines or techniques amongst others.
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent, Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • 10 years of demonstrated line management experience in a production and or assembly plant operation
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in technical product support
  • 5 years experience in people management
  • 5 years experience in HAZCHEM class 1 manufacturing
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in project management
Skills and Attributes
  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodology
  • Knowledge of engineering best practices and performance standards
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximising the effective manufacturing, assembly, and distribution of (explosives) products
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science, technology, and product. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Customer - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
  • Human Resources - Knowledge of principles and procedures for recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations, and negotiation
  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Understanding of the performance analysis of complex machines
  • Sound knowledge of applicable legislations such as; the Explosives Act, OHS Act, Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of quality management IRO the four main components: quality planning, quality assurance, quality control, and quality improvement. Quality management is focused not only on product and service quality but also on the means to achieve it
  • Knowledge of and application experience in applying process safety fundamentals
  • Sound financial management

  • Technical knowledge w.r.t mining explosives and services
  • Obtained the required knowledge, skill, and experience to be appointed as a 16.2 or 16.2 Assistant in terms of the OSHAct
