Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) is one of the largest and most respected growers of garden plants in Canada. We are proud to service garden retailers, landscape contractors, municipalities, and golf courses throughout Canada and the northern United States. We service our customers from three locations in Ontario, one in British Columbia and one in New Brunswick with a total land base of over 700 acres. BTN is currently looking at growing our team at our Chilliwack, BC location. Position: Integrated Pest Technician Ideal Qualifications: You should; * Be experienced with handling chemicals safely. * Possess a Spray Applicator's Certificate, or be willing to attain one. * Be comfortable and experienced with using PPE equipment. * Be very organized and detail oriented. * Have an interest in pests and plant diseases. * Be physically capable to carry a backpack sprayer. * Be comfortable with basic math equations / calculations. * Possess or be willing to get a First Aid level 1 certificate. Job Requirements You Will; * Help to develop and institute an efficient IPM program at the company. * Monitor the inventory on a regular basis for signs of pests and diseases. * Mix and apply chemicals as needed. * Follow industry guidelines for the safe handling and spraying of pesticides and fungicides. * Research relevant and current information related to the best course of actions. * Maintain spray equipment, keep records, logs and MSDS sheets up to date. * Investigate alternate methods of control and incorporate biologicals where possible. * Work with production staff to ensure growing and non-growing areas of the property are kept clear of weeds. * Assist in other areas of Production when spraying or scouting is not required.
Responsibilities include developing and instituting an IPM program, monitoring for pests and diseases, mixing and applying chemicals, maintaining records and MSDS sheets, researching best actions, and assisting in other production areas if spraying or scouting isn’t required.
Ideal qualifications include handling chemicals safely, a Spray Applicator's Certificate or willingness to obtain one, PPE experience, strong organization, basic math, and First Aid level 1 or willingness to get it.
You may assist in other areas of Production when spraying or scouting isn’t required.
The role requires following industry guidelines for safe handling and spraying of pesticides and fungicides, maintaining spray equipment, and keeping logs and MSDS sheets up to date.
