Planner
Full Time, Permanent
Kingston, Ontario
Salary range $65 to $75k/per annum
The Planner is an entry-level professional position at Fotenn. You bring foundational knowledge in planning and a collaborative mindset to support a range of planning assignments. Under the close supervision of senior staff, you assist with research, analysis, and preparation of planning deliverables. This role is an opportunity to build your expertise and contribute to project teams within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
Responsibilities include:
Project Delivery
- Assist in the preparation and review of development applications, including Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Site Plan Control, Minor Variance and Consent applications, and Plans of Subdivision
- Assist in the preparation of policy documents including new Official Plans, Master Plans, Community Design Plans, etc.
- Review development proposals and site plans for conformity to planning policies and regulations
- Prepare Planning Justification Reports in support of development applications
- Undertake background review, site research and development potential analysis
- Prepare and present development proposals to municipal approval authorities
- Act as liaison between community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials
- Conduct site visits and existing condition assessments
- Assist in resolving technical and public comments and/or concerns
- Attend and present at Committee of Adjustment hearings
- Prepare for and attend project and client meetings
- Prepare for and attend occasional public meetings, including evening and weekend meetings (as needed)
- And any other duties as assigned
Business Development
- Assist in business development, including preparing proposal letters and assisting with request for proposal submissions (RFPs)
Requirements include:
- Undergraduate and/or Masters level university degree in planning
- Practical understanding of municipal land use planning systems and policies
- Demonstrated ability to balance several projects simultaneously
- Strong oral communication skills including presenting to, and liaising with, clients, municipal departments, review agencies, and the public
- Strong technical writing experience
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to show initiative, critical thinking and work independently
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Assets include:
- Prior related work experience
- French written and oral communication skills
- Membership in, or on the path to obtain, certification with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI)
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, GIS and/or AutoCAD
- Possession of a valid drivers license
