THEMUSEUM is seeking an experienced, strategic, and entrepreneurial leader to join our team as Director of Development & Marketing.

THEMUSEUM is a dynamic not-for-profit cultural attraction dedicated to bringing art, technology, creativity, and immersive experiences to broad and diverse audiences. As the organization continues to grow and evolve, this leadership role will help shape the future of audience engagement, fundraising, sponsorship, and brand development.

The Opportunity

The Director of Development & Marketing will lead integrated fundraising, sponsorship, marketing, communications, and audience development strategies that strengthen the organizations visibility, financial sustainability, and community impact.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role oversees:

  • Development Manager
  • Marketing Manager
  • Graphic Designer

The successful candidate will be both strategic and hands-on capable of leading major initiatives while building strong relationships with donors, sponsors, media, tourism partners, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all fundraising and sponsorship activities including major gifts, annual campaigns, memberships, corporate partnerships, and stewardship.
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies that drive attendance, revenue, and brand awareness.
  • Build and manage strategic partnerships across business, tourism, government, and community sectors.
  • Oversee organizational storytelling, media relations, advertising, digital campaigns, and brand management.
  • Support the CEO and Board with fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and external relations.
  • Lead, mentor, and support departmental staff while fostering a collaborative and creative culture.
  • Develop departmental budgets, analytics, KPI reporting, and performance evaluation metrics.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or revenue development.
  • Demonstrated success securing sponsorships, donations, partnerships, and campaign growth.
  • Experience leading integrated marketing and audience engagement strategies.
  • Strong leadership, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Experience within not-for-profit, arts, culture, museum, attraction, tourism, or community sectors is considered an asset.
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational and project management abilities.
