Position Summary
The Lead Hand is responsible for providing day-to-day direction, support, and coordination of production employees within their assigned area. This position acts as a working leader, ensuring production schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives are achieved. The Lead Hand serves as a resource for employees, assists with training, and helps maintain a productive and positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
- Provide daily direction and guidance to employees within the assigned department.
- Coordinate work assignments to ensure production requirements are met.
- Assist with employee training, onboarding, and cross-training activities.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching on work practices and procedures.
- Communicate production priorities, safety concerns, and operational updates to the team.
- Support supervisors in maintaining a positive and respectful workplace culture.
- Act as the first point of contact for employees regarding day-to-day operational issues.
Production
- Ensure production schedules and targets are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor workflow and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Assist in troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure proper staffing coverage and communicate manpower concerns to supervision.
- Perform production duties as required while leading the team.
Quality
- Promote and reinforce quality standards throughout the department.
- Verify that inspections and quality checks are completed as required.
- Identify quality concerns and work with production and quality personnel to resolve issues.
- Ensure employees follow work instructions, procedures, and customer specifications.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing scrap and rework.
