Reports To: Production Supervisor / Production Manager

Position Summary

The Lead Hand is responsible for providing day-to-day direction, support, and coordination of production employees within their assigned area. This position acts as a working leader, ensuring production schedules, quality standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives are achieved. The Lead Hand serves as a resource for employees, assists with training, and helps maintain a productive and positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Support

  • Provide daily direction and guidance to employees within the assigned department.
  • Coordinate work assignments to ensure production requirements are met.
  • Assist with employee training, onboarding, and cross-training activities.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching on work practices and procedures.
  • Communicate production priorities, safety concerns, and operational updates to the team.
  • Support supervisors in maintaining a positive and respectful workplace culture.
  • Act as the first point of contact for employees regarding day-to-day operational issues.

Production

  • Ensure production schedules and targets are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor workflow and identify opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage and communicate manpower concerns to supervision.
  • Perform production duties as required while leading the team.

Quality

  • Promote and reinforce quality standards throughout the department.
  • Verify that inspections and quality checks are completed as required.
  • Identify quality concerns and work with production and quality personnel to resolve issues.
  • Ensure employees follow work instructions, procedures, and customer specifications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing scrap and rework.
