Hardware Manager (Electrical Engineering Leader)

Location: GTA
Industry: Premium Technology / High-Performance Imaging Systems
Type: Full-Time

This organization is a long-standing global innovator in immersive technology, recognized for developing premium, end-to-end solutions used by major creative and technical teams worldwide. Their products demand world-class engineering execution, and they are known for hiring highly skilled professionals across hardware, optics, imaging, and software disciplines.

They foster a culture built on collaboration, technical excellence, continuous improvement, and empowering their teams to push the boundaries of what's possible.

Role Overview

The Hardware Manager (Electrical Engineering) plays a key leadership role within the Product Development group, overseeing both the technical direction and day-to-day execution of the electrical design team. This position combines hands-on circuit design with people leadership—typically a 60% technical / 40% management split.

The successful candidate ensures that all electrical and electronic subsystems meet stringent performance, reliability, and quality standards for high-precision, globally deployed technology products.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Electrical Engineers and PCB Designers.

  • Assign work, set priorities, and guide technical decisions.

  • Participate in headcount planning, budgeting, and long-term product strategies.

Hands-On Technical Design (60%)
  • Design and test electronics including schematics and PCB layouts.

  • Drive advanced digital and analog design for high-performance systems.

  • Collaborate with optical, mechanical, firmware, and software teams on system-level integration.

Product Development & Sustaining
  • Support global product launches and ensure all systems meet certification and regulatory standards.

  • Oversee sustaining engineering for existing product lines.

  • Evaluate alternative designs to meet performance, cost, and supply-chain constraints.

Process, Documentation & Vendor Management
  • Maintain design documentation, specs, BOMs, and review packages.

  • Work with global suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Drive continuous improvements in the electrical development process.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Help Procurement, Operations, Quality, Field Service, and Installation teams troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Address global component shortages, obsolescence, and supply-chain challenges.

  • Support lab and field safety programs, including high-voltage and optical safety considerations.

Key Challenges
  • Balancing hands-on engineering with team leadership.

  • Ensuring compliance across global certification and regulatory requirements.

  • Managing component obsolescence and global supply-chain volatility.

  • Prioritizing effectively in a fast-moving, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Maintaining safety and reliability in high-power and high-brightness systems.

What You Bring
  • 7–10+ years in electrical design for complex consumer or industrial hardware.

  • 3+ years leading engineering teams.

  • 5+ years of schematic/PCB design (Altium or equivalent).

  • Strong experience in advanced digital design; analog preferred.

  • Skilled with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, SPICE, and validation tools.

  • Knowledge of thermal design; simulation experience is an asset.

  • Experience with global regulatory certification.

  • Excellent documentation, communication, and time-management skills.

  • P.Eng is highly desirable.

  • Experience with any of the following is a plus:

    • Video/image processing (FPGA/GPU pipelines)

    • Image compression standards

    • Component obsolescence tools

    • High-power laser or optical systems

    • Embedded software fundamentals
