As a Field Millwright with API, you will be deployed to client facilities across Alberta to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, installation, and overhaul work on rotating and mechanical equipment. You will be the face of API on site working alongside client operations and maintenance teams, coordinating with our Field Services Manager, and delivering work that holds up to the standards of facilities ranging from oil and gas plants to power generation, petrochemical, and food-grade environments.

This role is suited to a tradesperson who is comfortable working with limited day-to-day supervision, can adapt quickly to different sites and client expectations, and takes pride in being the kind of millwright a client requests by name.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, installation, and overhauls on pumps, fans, turbines, blowers, gearboxes, small compressors, and other rotating and plant equipment in field environments
  • Diagnose mechanical issues on site and develop practical, safe repair plans
  • Participate in installation, commissioning, and turnaround/shutdown projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship under tight schedules
  • Perform precision alignments using laser alignment tools and dial indicators
  • Read and interpret drawings, technical prints, and OEM manuals
  • Support piping work, structural fit-up, and general plant maintenance as required
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced field personnel, fostering a collaborative crew environment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, contractors, and API office staff in person, by email, and by phone
  • Complete daily field reports, time sheets, JHAs, and job documentation accurately and on time
  • Comply with API safety policies, client site rules, and applicable regulatory standards
  • Identify scope changes, additional work, and potential issues early and escalate them to the Field Services Manager
  • Respond to emergency or call-out work as required

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Millwright Certification or Red Seal Interprovincial Certification (required)
  • 5+ years of millwright experience, with a meaningful portion of that time spent in field-service or plant-maintenance environments
  • Experience working at multiple client sites, ideally across more than one industry (oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, food-grade, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with limited support
  • Comfortable performing alignments with laser alignment tools
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, technical prints, and OEM documentation
  • Familiar with the use of overhead and mobile cranes, MEWPs, forklifts, telehandlers, and other heavy lifting and access equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with client-facing interactions and email correspondence
  • Quick, rational thinking under pressure — especially during shutdowns and emergent repairs
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with discipline around documentation and reporting
  • Open-minded approach to learning new techniques and alternative methods
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence (required); willingness to travel to job sites and work shutdown schedules
  • Supervisory or lead-hand experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with rotating equipment in power generation or petrochemical environments is a strong asset

Pre-Access and Training Requirements

  • API onboarding and orientation
  • Site-specific orientations as required by client facilities
  • Pre-access drug and alcohol testing with a successful clearance letter (within 30 days of site access is acceptable)
  • First Aid Level A
  • Industrial training certifications expected or considered an asset: MEWP, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Forklift, Telehandler, WHMIS, CSTS 2020
