We're WH Smith Construction (http://www.whsmithconstruction.ca/) , and for the last 40 years, we've been serving the London area with general construction and demolition services. We focus on projects that improve the quality of life in communities across Ontario – ranging from asbestos abatements to school and hospital renovations, and everything in between. We're growing, and now looking for our new Junior Estimator. That's where you come in As our new Junior Estimator, your role will encompass a variety of functions within our company. You'll spend most of your time working in our office with blueprints and designs to produce accurate takeoffs and estimates for our full range of projects. Some of your major responsibilities will include: * Drafting proposals and tenders * Organizing schedules with internal staff as well as clients * Communicating with contractors to provide updates * Traveling to sites to do research and surveying * Coordinating and contracting subtrades Using a keen attention to detail, you'll come up with realistic deadlines and financial estimates that will keep us competitive while satisfying customers. Your work will help our projects come to life. We're looking for a motivated individual who will adapt and thrive alongside our business as we continue our journey of success. The very best in this role will have: * Excellent communication skills – as an estimator, you'll manage and oversee a lot of information. Sharing this information clearly with clients and project stakeholders (verbally or in written format), along with any updates will be critical to your success. * Drive – you know that the end of every task is the start of something new. You're always looking for ways to improve: for yourself and the company. * Attention to detail – whether you're doing detailed calculations for estimates, or figuring out how different projects fit together for the schedule, nothing gets past you. You're great at seeing how little things make a big difference in the long-term. Working with Us This will be a full-time, permanent position with hours from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You'll make a great starting salary, and can expect to earn between $45,000-$65,000 per year (depending on experience). We offer a benefits package, company vehicle access, and pension matching as well. We're a small company of just 35 people, with only 3 or 4 working out of the office. That means you'll have a big impact and plenty of autonomy when you start. If you take initiative and have a strong vision for how to make improvements, you'll have the latitude to do so. Jr. Estimator Qualifications * Certification/education as a civil engineering technologist * Some experience as an estimator in general construction is preferred * Knowledge of and experience using current estimation software * Completion of a relevant educational degree/diploma related to construction estimating/quantity surveying * Member of OIQS or CIQS is preferred but not required How to Apply Our online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume.
