Description

Area Manager, Assembly Operations, Line Assembly, Powerpack, Packaging Key Job Elements:
  • Plan, schedule, assign and prioritize tasks/assignments to achieve the performance of all work and contract requirements
  • Monitor assigned work activities to ensure implementation dates are met
  • Provide accurate daily/weekly/monthly status updates on all work activities within the team
  • Manage key cost elements e.g. overtime, departmental expenses, HPU's, MPS
  • Lead WSBM team meetings and actively identify and implement process improvements
  • Use effective coaching techniques to train and develop leadership and technical capabilities of the team
  • Ensure compliance of Unifor contract requirements
  • Maintain compliance with: GDLS policies, Trade Compliance (ITAR), ISO procedures Security and Safety regulations and industrial training requirements
  • Maintain favourable working relationships with internal and external customers
Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Manufacturing or Engineering Technologist
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Goal oriented and able to work under demanding conditions
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Communicates powerfully and prolifically
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Previous supervisory experience
Working Environment:
  • Nature of Supervision: Minimal (Self-directed work)
  • Work Interruptions and Distractions: Medium/significant, some interaction with unionized employees
  • Physical Environment: manufacturing/shop floor, some office
  • Work Interruptions and Distractions: Minimal to medium

Physical Conditions and Hazards:

Production/Sustainment shop floor support employees are responsible for maintaining support for touch labour and as such may spend a significant time in the production environment. Production/Sustainment shop floor support employees may be exposed to loud noise, dust, weld fume, paint and extreme temperatures. Production/Sustainment shop floor support employees may also assist the touch labour with the movement parts equipment as requested, this may include light lifting. In addition, Production/Sustainment shop floor support employees may be required to complete various administrative tasks depending on the job function

Computer based desk work is also required throughout the day.

Production/Sustainment shop floor support employees may be required to work shift work which may include rotation between day, afternoon, and night shifts. Additionally, overtime may be required on an as needed basis and may include weekend work.

Usual mobility demands required are standing, walking, sitting, and stair climbing to access upper offices and process work envelopes some stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and crouching may be required at times while assisting workers or accessing low placed items.
