We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Estimator to join our team. The Steel Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects. This role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, performing material take-offs, coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors, and preparing bid submissions within project deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Prepare accurate quantity take-offs for structural and miscellaneous steel
- Analyze project requirements, labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare detailed estimates, budgets, and bid proposals
- Coordinate with project managers, detailers, fabricators, and clients during the bidding process
- Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information
- Assist with project handover to operations after award
Qualifications
- Experience in steel estimating, structural steel fabrication, or construction estimating
- Strong understanding of structural and miscellaneous steel systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office programs
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and time management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously
Preferred Skills
- Experience with fabrication and erection processes
- Knowledge of CISC standards and construction practices
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Tekla, AutoCAD, or similar software
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
Work Environment
