POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client, a leading integrated refining and upgrading organization, is seeking a Senior Turnaround Manager to provide enterprise-level leadership for some of the most complex and business-critical shutdown and startup events across refinery, upgrader, and ethanol assets.

Reporting directly to the VP, Canadian Refining, this role carries full accountability for the strategy, planning, and execution of major turnaround events. The successful leader will ensure operational excellence across safety, schedule, cost, and risk while driving continuous improvement in turnaround maturity across the organization.

This is a high-impact leadership mandate requiring deep technical credibility in refining or petrochemical turnaround environments, combined with the ability to influence at the executive level and lead large, multidisciplinary teams through highly complex execution windows.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic leadership for enterprise turnaround planning and execution across multiple operating facilities
  • Shape long-term turnaround philosophy, including optimization of turnaround frequency, scope discipline, and execution models
  • Ensure full alignment with Operations Integrity Management Systems (OIMS), regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards
  • Oversee integration of capital and expense work within turnaround execution frameworks to ensure optimal resource utilization and value delivery
  • Establish and maintain integrated turnaround master schedules, ensuring visibility, alignment, and disciplined execution across all stakeholders
  • Define and govern KPIs and performance metrics, with emphasis on process safety, environmental stewardship, schedule adherence, and cost performance
  • Deliver executive-level reporting, including performance dashboards, risk summaries, and post-event analysis to support continuous improvement
  • Lead standardization and best practice development across turnaround planning, contracting, and execution disciplines
  • Direct contracting and procurement strategies to ensure fit-for-purpose execution models and optimized vendor performance
  • Chair or lead turnaround steering committees, ensuring robust readiness, risk mitigation, and decision-making discipline throughout all phases
  • Develop and mentor high-performing teams, building organizational capability and succession strength within the turnaround function
  • Drive execution excellence for flagship events, including preparation for the 2028 Upgrader turnaround
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 16+ years of progressive leadership experience in turnaround management, maintenance execution, or large-scale industrial project delivery
  • Demonstrated success leading complex turnaround events within refining, petrochemical, or similarly high-hazard industrial environments
  • Strong command of enterprise-level project governance, change management, and execution assurance frameworks
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex technical and commercial risk clearly and credibly
  • Proven ability to build, scale, and retain high-performance teams in demanding operational environments
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred
  • Must possess valid Canadian work authorization (citizenship, permanent residency, or work permit)
