Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor - Mechanical, the Engineering Designer – Mechanical works closely with sales, procurement, and production to review submittals, source components, and create work orders and documentation to provide instructions to production to properly build products as expected by customers. They will work closely with the production, engineering, R&D, and sales teams to ensure smooth acquisition of sheet metal and other materials for our HVAC units.

Responsibilities:
  • Takes responsibility for assigned portion of the project scope and schedule.
  • Maintains expert level of product knowledge and applications to effectively provide technical support and advice.
  • Reviews and understands technical data such as technical data sheets, job specifications, and drawings.
  • Updates work orders in ERP and maintains all appropriate documentation.
  • Coordinates and monitors projects with the engineering and operations teams to ensure continuity and avoid project delays while providing support and status updates.
  • Follows established standard procedures so that project requirements are completed and communicated as expected by all parties.
  • Proactively participates in creating, improving, and standardizing processes and procedures to maximize quality and efficiency.
  • Participates in cost reduction initiatives.
  • Provides technical support to production, procurement, sales, and service departments.
  • Acts as liaison with both suppliers and team members to ensure that material and parts meet quality standards and delivery times.
  • Prepares technical documentation in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards.
  • Coordinates work with related disciplines. Interacts with designers, engineers, and operations to assist in the creation of high-quality multi-discipline document packages to produce HVAC units.
  • Coordinates and manages the purchase order process for sheet metal and sheet metal parts. Expedites open orders.
  • Assists with procurement of other parts/materials when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in engineering. Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • 1 - 2 years of related experience gained in deadline-driven manufacturing environments.
  • Solid understanding of engineering, procurement, and construction, and other project-related activities, their interfaces, and interdependencies.
  • A business professional of high integrity with the ability to adapt to change in a work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in order to balance multiple projects.
  • Adaptability to handle changes in real-time to project scope resulting from supply chain issues, production constraints, or customer requests.
  • Strong analytical, project management, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, particularly Visual Manufacturing or other comparable systems.
  • Able to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, and more specifically strong Excel skills.
