Position Overview

The Welder/Fitter/Fabricator role is hands-on and central to our shop operations. You will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints, laying out materials, fitting and assembling signage components, and working closely with welders and other team members to ensure all jobs meet JD Sign Groups high standards for quality and compliance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fit, and tack signage components including shells, heads, nozzles, and pipe assemblies according to drawings and specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols to ensure accurate assembly and alignment.
  • Use mechanical and hand tools such as overhead cranes, grinders, and layout equipment.
  • Work with measuring tools including tapes, squares, levels, and calipers to verify fit-up dimensions and tolerances.
  • Assist with preparing components for welding, including grinding, bevelling, and cleaning.
  • Collaborate with welders, assemblers, and department leads to complete jobs efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area while meeting production deadlines.
    Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and steel plates, tubes, and extrusions.
  • Assemble channel letters and install sign faces (acrylic, push-through, aluminum, flex).
  • Manage packaging, crating, and shipping/receiving processes.
  • Follow all Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, Company Policies, and Procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department supervisor or lead hand.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of welding/fabrication experience.
  • At least 2 years of aluminum MIG/TIG welding experience.
  • Strong math skills and ability to use measuring/testing equipment accurately.
  • Welding ability must meet detailed work requirements and guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
