Job Details:
Service Technician (Machinist / Mechanical & Electrical)
We're hiring a hands-on Service Technician with strong machining and mechanical aptitude and good electrical/PLC troubleshooting skills. You'll install, maintain and repair machines at our site and customer sites in the GTA and occasionally beyond. Ideal for a machinist / tradesperson who likes diagnostics, travel, and customer contact.
Key responsibilities
- Service, repair and commission machinery (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electromechanical systems) both in-shop and on customer sites.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults — wiring, motors, VFDs, sensors, relays and basic PLC logic troubleshooting.
- Perform preventative maintenance, rebuilds and alignments on mechanical sub-assemblies (gears, bearings, slides, fixtures).
- Operate and maintain shop machine tools (lathe, mill, drill press, grinders) to fabricate or modify parts.
- Read and update mechanical and electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service logs.
- Keep clear service reports, parts lists and communicate directly with customers and engineering to resolve issues.
- Support machine installations, on-site commissioning, operator training and hand-overs.
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation when required (compensation/OT provided).
Must-have qualifications
- 3+ years hands-on experience as a machinist, millwright, industrial mechanic, or service technician in automated machinery or manufacturing.
- Familiar with manual machining (lathe & mill) and basic fabrication (fit, drill, tap, assemble).
- Practical electrical skills: reading wiring diagrams, multi-meter work, motor starter/VFD basics, sensor troubleshooting.
- Experience troubleshooting or supporting PLC-controlled systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar) — reading ladder logic an asset.
- Comfortable working at customer sites and travelling within the GTA / Ontario.
- Valid driver's licence and clean driving record.
- Strong problem-solving skills and good customer communication.
- Ability to lift up to ~50 lbs, work on ladders/platforms and use hand/power tools safely.
Nice-to-have (preferred)
- Trade certification (Machinist, Millwright, Electrician, Industrial Mechanic) or equivalent.
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Experience with VFDs, servo systems, or industrial networking.
- Forklift license.
- Welding (MIG/TIG/basic stick) skills.
Compensation & hours
- Competitive hourly wage depending on experience
- Overtime and travel time paid according to Ontario employment standards.
- Benefits and extended health available for full-time hires (if applicable — customise).
What we offer
- Hands-on role on industrial automation equipment with variety (installation, repair, fabrication).
- Small, experienced team and direct access to engineering for complex diagnostics.
- Opportunity for skills growth in PLCs, VFDs and systems integration.
- Field work + shop time — good fit if you like variety and problem solving.
