About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and caring Care Taker (Home Child Care Provider) to care for our children in our home in Pickering, Ontario. The ideal candidate will provide a safe, nurturing, and structured environment while supporting daily routines, hygiene, and developmental activities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and care for children in the employer's home
  • Assist with daily routines, meals, dressing, and hygiene
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals for the children
  • Organize games, activities, and outings
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Tend to the emotional well-being of children
  • Light housekeeping related to childcare (laundry, cleaning play areas, tidying rooms)
  • Monitor children during rest periods
  • Use positive, non-physical discipline strategies

Requirements

  • Experience caring for children (informal or formal)
  • Ability to work independently
  • English communication skills
  • CPR/First Aid certification an asset (not required)
  • Ability to follow routines and safety practices
  • Reliability, flexibility, and strong work ethic

Work Setting

  • Employer's private home
  • Care for children within the household
  • Live-in arrangements available (optional)
    • Private furnished bedroom
    • Access to shared bathroom
    • 3 meals per day
    • Deductions only as permitted by the Ontario ESA

Work Schedule

  • 35 hours per week, schedule provided in advance
  • Overtime paid after 44 hours per week (ESA rules)
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required with notice
