Salary Range: $100k-$130k per annum
The Company & Project
Bridgemans Kitimat Crew Management Ltd. is a fully integrated marine service provider, equipped with marine-certified crew and a fleet of unique assets servicing industrial projects around the world. Bridgemans Kitamaat Joint Venture (BKJV) Limited Partnership's scope is to demolish a decommissioned marine facility in Northern BC. Demolition involves the removal and disposal of two wharves consisting of concrete pilings , slabs, bulkhead with creosote timber, sheet pilings, and mooring structures.
The Opportunity
This position is responsible for overseeing field operations involving company crews and various specialty subcontractors at a marine demolition project for Bridgemans. Incumbent is responsible for managing operations in the demolition, construction, and/or repair of marine terminals and dock facilities. Reporting to the Construction Director this position will work closely and supervise field forces including but not limited to Barge Foreman, Deck Engineers, Equipment Operators, Welders, Vessel Captains, Laborers, Carpenters, subcontractors, and other skilled craft personnel on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Project Leadership & Oversight: Supervise all phases of marine demolition projects, ensuring alignment with safety, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Work Planning & Resource Allocation: Manage detailed work schedules in coordination with Construction Director, Project Manager, and subcontractors; efficiently assign labor, equipment, and materials across tasks such as concrete and sheet pile
- extractions, concrete demolition with wire saws, barge movements, and debris management.
- Project Environmental Compliance: Ensure all demolition activities comply with approved Environmental Management Plans (EMP) and Marine Monitoring Plans (MMP).
- Team Management & Coordination: Direct and supervise a multidisciplinary team including subcontractors and company personnel (Barge Foremen, Crane Operators, Welders, Laborers) to ensure safe and coordinated field operations.
- Wharf Demolition Management: Oversee dismantling of creosote timber structures, concrete (decking, pile caps, pilings), steel structures (sheet pilings, whalers, tie-rods, mooring dolphins), and top-side equipment; plan safe removal, load handling, and disposal logistics for both self-performed and subcontracted work.
- Technical Oversight & Drawings: Review technical drawings and provide guidance on cutting, lifting, and demolition sequencing.
- Safety Program Enforcement: Champion a safety-first culture; enforce Bridgemans Safety Policies and WorkSafe BC regulations including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, and emergency response protocols.
- Equipment & Operational Readiness: Ensure heavy machinery, derrick barges, and other equipment comply with Vessel Quality Assurance (VQA) programs; maintain, inspect, and ensure tools and machinery are ready for use.
- Personnel Development & Leadership: Participate in hiring, evaluation, and training of crew members; mentor Foremen and field staff in safe work practices, productivity, and leadership.
- Issue Resolution & Risk Management: Identify project risks or delays early and implement corrective actions; resolve site-level issues promptly to maintain workflow and safety standards.
- Reporting & Documentation: Support Project Coordinators and Administrators in maintaining accurate daily reports on demolition quantities, progress, incidents, and compliance.
- Logistics & Site Access: Manage transportation logistics for demolished materials via land and marine barges from project sites.
- Environmental Stewardship: Ensure all demolition activities are environmentally responsible, preventing deleterious materials from entering the water.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in leading marine demolition projects, including concrete, timber, and steel structures.
- Strong knowledge of project planning, resource allocation, and field operations management.
- Familiarity with Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Marine Monitoring Plans (MMP), and environmental compliance.
- Expertise in reviewing technical drawings and providing demolition guidance.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, including supervision of multidisciplinary crews.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and enforcement, including WorkSafe BC requirements.
- Experience with equipment inspection, maintenance, and operational readiness programs (e.g., VQA).
- Ability to mentor and develop personnel, fostering productivity and safety culture.
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to identify risks, manage issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Competence in reporting, documentation, and project progress tracking.
- Logistics management experience, including marine transport of materials.
- Must be physically fit and able to work in marine and construction environments safely.
- Ability to work flexible and rotational hours, including weekends.
- Complete drug and alcohol testing ifrequired
