MAINTENANCE MANAGER
Courtyard & Residence Inn by Marriott Calgary South
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for directing and participating in the activities of the Maintenance department in a manner that will ensure the hotel guests are provided with well-maintained rooms, along with a secure place to stay. The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the hotel's infrastructure, systems, and amenities are maintained to the highest standards, in compliance with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and brand standards.
This is a full-time position and the successful candidate must be available to work early mornings, late evenings and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership
Oversee daily maintenance operations across all areas of the hotel including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, kitchen, HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, and landscaping
Hire, train, and manage the maintenance team, including scheduling and performance evaluations
Schedule staff in accordance with forecasted business, maintaining agreed productivity norms and achieving the departmental wage budget, ensuring the accurate submission of time sheets
Achieve effective communication by briefing and debriefing staff and actively encouraging communication with other departments within the hotel
Ensure all staff are aware of procedures the Emergency Action Plan for the property
Ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment ensuring adherence to the departmental budget
Carry out the duties of an absent staff member and/or assist in another department as necessary
Ensure all staff are competent in the safe and effective use of equipment/chemicals in accordance with manufacturers instructions
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Operations
Plan and execute preventive maintenance throughout the hotel to ensure the safe and efficient running of all equipment, ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Prioritize and carry out maintenance as requested by departments
Maintain parking lot and outdoor facilities
Be knowledgeable about the consumption and conservation of energy in the property, overseeing energy conservation efforts and sustainability initiatives.
Test fire alarms, emergency lighting etc. on a routine basis as required by federal, provincial and company standards
Liaise with the Director of Operations regarding use of contractors within/outside the hotel, controlling expenditure and ensuring work meets brand/hotel management standards
Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs, renovations, or equipment servicing
Ensure the cost effective and hygienic removal of garbage from the hotel in line with company policy
Be on call to carry out emergency maintenance work outside of normal working hours
Maintain records of safety logs, maintenance records, and inspection reports as required by federal, provincial and company standards.
Liaise closely with Guest Services and Housekeeping regarding off market rooms
Ensure the safe and professional completion of deep cleaning duties
Maintain the safe and hygienic upkeep of the swimming pool using all chemicals in accordance with management/manufacturers instructions
Follow safe and cost-effective cleaning procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in a maintenance role, previous hotel experience considered an asse
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a leadership capacity
- Experience with basic hand tools
- WHMIS and First Aid certification preferred
- Previous exposure to expenses and budgets
- Previous experience with inventory management
- Experience with basic hand tools

- Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety considered an asset

- Ability to set priorities for self and others in the hotel
- Project planning capabilities coupled with time management and organization techniques
Desired Education
- A High School Diploma or GED required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Required to work in various environments including but not limited to indoors/outdoors, mechanical rooms and rooftops
- Work may include but not limited to sitting, standing, bending, crouching, lifting, and climbing ladders
- Work may require use of power tools
- May be required to work early morning, late evening and weekend shifts
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
