Senior Accountant

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will support our assurance team by preparing financial statements, managing accounts, performing audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate should be able to work both independently and as part of a team and must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Audit and review of financial statements independently and in teams with minimal supervision (including thorough response to planning, identification and resolution of engagement issues, complete working paper organization and evidence, thorough clearing of queries)
- Lead engagement teams, which will include planning, fieldwork and training of CPA students
- Review for completion/overall quality of working papers prepared by junior staff prior to handing in to manager/partner for detailed review
- Complete compilation assignments (including thorough documentation of working papers)
- Preparation of financial statements and notes
- Keep abreast of current and emerging technical and tax developments
- (i.e. attending required PD courses, maintaining required PD hours and self study)
- Preparation of basic and complex personal, trust and corporate income tax returns with reduced supervision
- Preparation of letters and other communications to clients and CRA
- Assistance with training and mentoring of Co-op and new staff
- Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Completed CPA designation preferred or in final stages of completion.
- Minimum 4 years public accounting experience
- Experience in preparation of review and audit engagements within a team or individually
- Experience leading engagement teams, including planning, fieldwork and training of CPA students.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., iFirm, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with a high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
