Job Description

This 18 month contract position is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for all Farm Boy employees. Providing continuous training and support to Home Office, Stores and the Central Operations in order to increase payroll awareness and constantly monitor processes for better efficiency. The performance of the duties must ensure a quality service approach to all employees, customers and suppliers. All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Verify information received on various forms for accuracy.
  • Verify information entered by retail in WFN for accuracy and completeness.
  • Process all new hires, terminations, time off requests, pay changes, status changes, transfers and any other employee changes into payroll system.
  • Assist with the processing of the bi-weekly payroll, including review of data input and output.
  • Assist with various biweekly payroll audits.
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports as required.
  • Verify weekly payroll estimates received and assist with balancing and discrepancies.
  • Assist with Year-end processing including reconciliations and T4 balancing.
  • Provide backup for the Payroll Specialist II during vacation and other leaves.
  • Maintain all related payroll files, spreadsheets and records.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to internal and external inquiries.
  • Maintain payroll training documentation and provide training to payroll team as required.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.
Qualifications
  • Typically requires completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification, plus 3 to 5 years of experience in payroll processing for 5,000+ hourly and salary employees, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of payroll using ADP – WFN will be considered an asset.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Payroll Legislation and Accounting experience will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent team work orientation with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Superior customer service and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proven interpersonal, organizational, mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle strict deadlines and work under pressure with superior attention to detail.
  • High respect for confidentiality.

Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Performing extensive and repetitive data entry.
  • Sitting for long periods of time at workstation.
  • Possible exposure to eye strain from computer terminals.
