Wage: $45-$65 per hour.
Hours of Work:
  • 40 hours of work per week
  • Overtime pay is applicable after 40 hours of work per week

The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.
From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Montreal, Quebec; Acton, Hanover, and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.Your RoleAs the Senior Mill Technical Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for providing strategic direction and technical expertise to all milling sites, focusing on optimizing plant production processes to enhance product extraction, by-product and waste reduction, capacity utilization, facility and equipment upgrade, and overall plant efficiency. This will be achieved through process design/re-design, engineering, equipment adjustments and utilization, industry best practices and operational technologies, and targeted improvement initiatives. Additionally, this role involves managing the roll corrugation program within national operations and ensuring that all plants are equipped with and utilize the most suitably conditioned equipment throughout the milling process. Day to Day
  • Analyze existing processes, identify gaps, and implement strategies and solutions to optimize product output and extraction, maximize capacity utilization and productivity, and improve the overall plant efficiency while ensuring compliance to the quality and health and safety requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues in milling/production, monitor the resolution and performance results, and ensure that the corresponding managers and personnel at the plant are involved and trained in the troubleshooting process.
  • Develop and execute changes and improvement in the milling processes or systems and equipment in collaboration with plant local management team.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Project Site proponents and champions in the development and implementation of operational and capital projects.
  • Effectively work and collaborate with the plant's production and technical team in implementing improvements in production processes and installation of new or additional equipment or technologies.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and associated procedures for other plants and future reference and ensure compliance with all related operational programs and standards.
  • Plan, organize, direct, manage, and schedule the activities in the national roll corrugation department including the staff.
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPI's) and metrics, ensuring that they are monitored and acted upon if there is any gaps or deviations.
  • Collaborate with the R&D Manager in the development of the most optimized and cost-effective National Wheat Grist without compromising the quality specifications and milling performance.
  • Provide immediate coverage and operational support to the plant team when needed.
  • Collaborate and provide technical assistance to Project Manager and Operations Manager in the development and management of Capital projects.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and a high food safety standard in accordance with BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) and Food Safety procedures.
  • Conduct performance review and management which includes fair and effective disciplinary action, as required, in accordance with the Company policies and standards.
  • Hire, supervise, train or oversee ongoing training and development of staff in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of formal milling training and education, with a degree or diploma in flour milling technology from Swiss Milling School, Milling Science and Management from KSU, or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering or related fields or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 15 years of industry experience in flour milling in operations or technical roles.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related managerial experience is required with preference given to prior experience as a Head Miller, Mill Manager, Operations Manager, and related roles.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application.
  • Ability to travel and work at all plants across Canada.
