Our busy downtown law firm is seeking an Intermediate Personal Injury Legal Assistant to support one lawyer in managing a full personal injury practice from file opening to final settlement or trial conclusion. This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, enjoys working independently, and values the opportunity to handle files from start to finish in a supportive, professional environment.
- Provide full legal and administrative support in all aspects of personal injury litigation.
- Manage client files independently from intake through to resolution.
- Maintain consistent communication with clients, opposing counsel, and insurance adjusters.
- Ensure deadlines, limitation dates, and court procedures are carefully monitored and met.
Responsibilities
- Open, organize, and maintain litigation files in accordance with firm standards.
- Draft, edit, and prepare pleadings, affidavits, correspondence, and court documents.
- Schedule discoveries, mediations, and trials; coordinate with clients, experts, and witnesses.
- Review and summarize medical, employment, and expert reports.
- Prepare settlement documentation, trust letters, and release documents.
- Maintain the lawyer's calendar, track deadlines, and manage task lists.
- Handle billing, disbursements, and other file-related administrative tasks.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates and obtain necessary information.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Personal Injury Legal Assistant or Litigation Legal Assistant.
- Strong understanding of personal injury processes and the Alberta Rules of Court.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal practice management software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional and empathetic client approach.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
