The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Nurse to join our dynamic team. As a Research Nurse, you will be the primary point of contact for the participants in our research studies. You are the frontline of our research activities, responsible for guiding participants through the entire process with clarity, professionalism, and care.
This role is critical to our success. You will ensure that every participant feels valued, informed, and comfortable, while meticulously collecting the high-quality data that powers our research. What You'll Do
Participant Engagement & Consenting:
- Serve as the main liaison for research participants, answering their questions and addressing any concerns with confidence and clarity.
- Clearly explain all aspects of a study, including its purpose, procedures, risks, and benefits, to potential participants.
- Obtain and document informed consent, both virtually and in person, in strict accordance with ethical guidelines (TCPS2) and study-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Foster a positive and trusting participant experience from initial contact through to follow-up.
Sample & Data Collection:
- Collect biological samples (e.g., blood, saliva) from participants, ensuring proper collection, labeling, transport and storage procedures are followed as according to study-specific SOPs.
- Conduct detailed, structured interviews, both virtually and in person, to accurately capture participant medical history and multi-generational family health history.
- Ensure the precise and confidential entry of all consent forms, health data, and sample information into our research database, upholding the highest standards of data integrity.
Coordination & Collaboration:
- Schedule and manage participant appointments, communication and logistics.
- Maintain and organize study supplies, including documents and biological sample collection kits.
- Support the preparation and submission of study documentation to the Research Ethics Board (REB), including initial applications, amendments, and annual renewals.
- Collaborate closely with the broader team to ensure seamless study operations.
- Assist in other identified areas of research support such as, but not limited to, medical records abstracting, medical records coding, and performing audits for accuracy, adherence to ethics and protocol compliance.
- Other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or CEO.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Nursing; registered and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland & Labrador (CRNNL).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with human research participants in a clinical or academic research setting and / or minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience and proficiency in specimen collection (eg. phlebotomy).
- Demonstrated experience in the informed consent process.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; you can explain complex scientific concepts in a simple, accessible way.
- Strong empathy, active listening skills, and an ability to build trust with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with technology and experience with data entry into databases.
- A valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle for daily travel purposes.
