Position Summary:

Responsible for providing intake assessment, crisis intervention and brief solution focused counselling and support services for children and families with significant behavioural, emotional and social problems. This is a collaborative project of three agencies: Vanier Childrens Mental Wellness; Merrymount Family Support & Crisis Centre; and Humana Community Services.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • College diploma or university degree in child and youth work; social service work or equivalent specialization.
  • Must have 5 or more years experience delivering crisis supports/work in a crisis setting.
  • Must have Red Cross First Aid, CPR C, and certification at the time of applying for this position and Crisis Intervention training is an asset; training will be provided if needed.
  • Valid drivers license, with adequate liability and own vehicle.
  • Bilingual in French or another language is desirable.

Job Duties

  • to provide crisis services which may include TAPP-C assessment in the home or in the agency.
  • to provide a crisis response which may include in home services.
  • to provide waitlist counselling supports to Vanier clients.
  • to engage and develop safety/action plans for children, youth and their families who are in crisis.
  • provide written reports, summaries, and case notes as required by the program / agency.
  • to complete intake assessment interviews including standardized assessment tools.
  • respond to intake and crisis phone calls and provide risk assessment and action plans from the information gathered.
  • provide ongoing support to children, youth, and families who are referred and awaiting services of the program/agency.
  • to assist families in accessing and building support through formal and informal networks.
  • any other duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • TAPP-C Assessment Trained
  • ASIST certification
  • EMHware trained

  • Motivational Interviewing Training

Schedule:

  • Rotating schedule, 35-hour work week.
  • Shifts vary.

Pay:

  • $28.94 - $32.56 per hour
