Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead and execute power systems projects with technical excellence, project management acumen, and strong client engagement. This role emphasizes engineering design, mentorship, and business development, contributing to the growth and reputation of the organization.

The Electrical Engineer will be specifically focusing on solving problems involving power systems, the successful candidate will provide technical expertise, plan and execute projects, provide mentorship, coaching, and leadership to team members, and assist developing new business; ultimately providing exceptional client service through the completion of power systems projects.

Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

  • Perform and authenticate electrical designs across low, medium, and high voltage systems
  • Develop industrial control schemes, control narratives, flex-logic, and automatic power transfer implementations
  • Conduct and review technical reports and power system studies (e.g., load flow, short circuit, arc flash, motor starting, harmonics, grounding)
  • Configure and compute protective relay settings and logic (SEL, GE, ABB, etc.)
  • Utilize software tools: ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, EMTP, CDGES
  • Apply Canadian Electrical Code C22.1 Part 1 and IEEE standards
  • Design switchgear, substations, and protection systems (schematics and wiring)
  • Support proposal development and cost estimation
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal

Project Management

  • Lead projects valued between $10,000 and $500,000
  • Plan resources and collaborate across teams and regions
  • Ensure timely, safe, and budget-conscious project execution
  • Maintain client satisfaction through clear communication and quality deliverables
  • Oversee invoicing and financial performance of projects

Client Management & Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities
  • Collaborate with marketing and senior staff to build industry confidence
  • Network at trade shows, conferences, and seminars
  • Draft and negotiate proposals based on audits and client needs
  • Foster strong client relationships and support team engagement

People Leadership

  • Mentor and coach project-assigned personnel
  • Promote skill development and career growth
  • Support employee engagement and retention initiatives

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Proficient in ETAP (preferred), SKM, EasyPower, EMTP, CDGES
  • Strong design capabilities for power systems and electrical components
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
  • Experience in industrial, utility, and commercial environments
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills
  • Flexible to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Comfortable working in office, industrial sites, and remote settings

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience creating protective relay setting files (EnerVista Launchpad, AcSELerator)
  • Ability to bench-configure relays
