We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our team. As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing instrumentation and control systems and components for various projects. Your role will involve collaborating with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure that the instrumentation and controls systems meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project teams, clients, contractors, and vendors to understand mining / mineral processing project requirements, constraints, and objectives.
  • Develop instrumentation and controls design criteria and specifications.
  • Review mechanical package specifications.
  • Design instrumentation deliverables including instrument lists, datasheets, installation details, loop wiring diagrams, and cable lists.
  • Design controls deliverables including plant control system I/O lists, control panel drawings, network architecture diagrams, and control philosophies.
  • Specify instruments and automated valves.
  • Prepare request for proposals and perform technical evaluations of vendor submissions.
  • Review vendor instrumentation and controls documents.
  • Develop P&IDs.
  • Attend factory acceptance testing.
  • Participate in plant commissioning, start-up, and optimization.
  • Support project cost estimates and proposals.
  • Conduct site visits to define instrumentation and controls scope.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to instrumentation and controls design and implementation.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 5 to 10 years experience working as an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer for or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and controls design principles, codes, and standards, including CEC and ISA.
  • Proficiency in valve sizing software.
  • Solid understanding of instrumentation and controls equipment, components, and materials used in industrial and mining applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with electrical design will be considered a strong asset, particularly in projects where integrated instrumentation and controls and electrical systems coordination is critical.
  • Professional engineer license (P.Eng) is desirable but not mandatory.
