Job Summary

Garden City Towing is looking for a reliable and skilled Tow Truck Operator. The ideal candidate will respond to roadside incidents, tow disabled or illegally parked vehicles, and providing emergency roadside assistance like jump-starts or tire changes. This role requires excellent customer service skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to operate towing equipment efficiently.

Core duties and responsibilities

  • Vehicle towing and recovery: Safely operate a tow truck to transport disabled, impounded, or improperly parked vehicles.
  • Roadside assistance: Provide emergency services like jump-starting batteries, changing flat tires, or delivering fuel to stranded motorists.
  • Vehicle assessment: Evaluate the situation to determine the best course of action for safely moving a damaged or disabled vehicle.
  • Vehicle securing: Properly and safely secure vehicles to the tow truck using appropriate equipment before transport.
  • Inspections and maintenance: Perform regular pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the tow truck and equipment.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, other drivers, and customers via radio or phone.
  • Documentation: Complete and maintain required paperwork, such as tow logs, invoices, and mileage records.
  • Repairs: May perform minor emergency repairs on the roadside.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license: A clean driving record is crucial, and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required depending on the vehicle and location.
  • Mechanical knowledge: Strong mechanical knowledge related to automotive systems and repairs.
  • Physical fitness: Ability to lift heavy objects and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Problem-solving: Strong ability to assess situations and make quick, effective decisions.
  • Customer service: Excellent communication skills to professionally interact with customers during stressful situations.
  • Time management: Ability to manage time effectively to respond to calls and complete jobs efficiently.
