Buyer – Southern Yellow Pine Lumber
Our client is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer to manage the procurement of Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) lumber products. This role plays a key part in supporting company growth by ensuring reliable supply, competitive pricing, and high product quality through strong vendor partnerships across the southern U.S.
The Buyer will monitor market trends, negotiate purchasing terms, and maintain inventory accuracy while supporting broader product and sales strategies. The role offers significant exposure to the lumber commodity sector and involves regular travel to sawmills, supplier facilities, and industry events across North America.

Responsibilities
·Identify, source, and purchase SYP lumber to meet business and customer needs.
·Cultivate strong, long-term supplier partnerships to maintain consistent quality and pricing.
·Keep informed on market shifts, production trends, and competitive conditions across the lumber industry.
·Negotiate cost, delivery, and payment terms to optimize supply performance.
·Manage product levels and forecast purchasing needs in collaboration with product and sales teams.
·Ensure inventory accuracy through tracking, reconciliation, and data analysis.
·Oversee order fulfillment, shipping schedules, and associated documentation.
·Provide updates to sales and operations on product availability and market conditions.
·Troubleshoot logistics or supplier-related issues to maintain operational continuity.
·Collaborate across departments to ensure timely material flow.
·Visit sawmills, supplier facilities, and tradeshows to strengthen relationships and stay informed on industry developments.
·Represent the organization professionally in all supplier and market interactions.
Skills & Qualifications
·Diploma or degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline preferred.
·1–3 years of procurement or purchasing experience (lumber or building materials sector an asset).
·Experience with ERP or inventory systems is advantageous (training provided).
·Valid driver's license and passport required for travel.
·Strong negotiation and communication abilities.
·Excellent organizational and data management skills.
·Analytical thinker with sound understanding of commodity pricing and supply dynamics.
·Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel required).
·Adaptable, resourceful, and able to thrive in a fast-paced trading environment.
