Job Details:
Our client is looking for an Intermediate Estimator to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing bid specifications and drawings, ensuring all necessary information is gathered to successfully prepare and secure project tenders. This role also involves coordinating with subcontractors to obtain competitive bids and working closely with Project Management teams to track budgets and finalize awarded projects.
Key Responsibilities
Bid Administration
- Prepare and maintain records of plan reproduction.
- Communicate regularly with subcontractors and vendors to solicit pricing.
- Develop subcontractor bid packages and Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
- Distribute addenda and updated bid information to subcontractors.
- Ensure sufficient subcontractor coverage on bid day.
- Contact suppliers to secure additional subcontractor bids when needed.
- Apply creativity and negotiation skills to achieve the best pricing.
- Submit 100% of bids and budgets by the required deadlines.
- Accurately enter and maintain bid data in databases or spreadsheets.
Project Management Support
- Review bid requirements in detail and raise clarifying questions.
- Gain a strong understanding of the scope of assigned trades.
- Develop Requests for Information (RFIs) and clarifications while ensuring subcontractor coverage.
- Conduct thorough bid-day analyses and scoping of assigned trades.
- Match subcontractors appropriately to the size and scope of projects.
- Create accurate bid lists aligned with project requirements.
- Reduce exclusions through comprehensive due diligence.
- Incorporate value-engineering ideas into every bid submission.
- Follow up with architects and construction managers on submitted bids and budgets to secure projects.
- Transfer bid documents and subcontractor buyout information to the Project Management team within 24 hours of award notification.
- Review drawings with Project Management, flagging potential concerns.
- Assist in job cost reviews, identifying any outstanding subcontractors or suppliers.
- Complete project kick-off documentation to ensure compliance.
Subcontractor & Supplier Management
- Verify requirements to ensure correct scope of work is awarded.
- Release materials for record purposes when appropriate.
- Confirm subcontractors and suppliers are aligned with project schedules.
- Provide subcontractors and suppliers with all relevant project details (e.g., project manager, superintendent, permits).
- Research, evaluate, and prequalify new subcontractors.
- Support additional and ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in business, accounting, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction estimating.
- At least 3 years of experience in construction project management or design-build.
- Strong ability to interpret construction specifications, drawings, and full scopes of work.
- Skilled in analyzing and interpreting complex or incomplete information and making sound decisions.
- Strong mathematical aptitude.
- Proficiency with estimating software, construction databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
